Case study: Rainier Beach High School, Seattle WA

At EducateSuccess, we believe that bonding with at least one positive, caring adult is the key to successfully overcoming the effects of a high-risk environment.

Research shows that prevention strategies for high-risk individuals are more effective when caring communities work together to support them. Through our life coach training , we equip community leaders, mentors, and key stakeholders with effective tools to implement proactive, preventative strategies.

Our trained coaches were then given a group of 60 students to facilitate and support through a
12-week Pathways to Success program implementation. Well-known speakers from the community volunteered their time to speak about their life journey as they pertained to the four pathways. Classroom teachers and administrative staff collaborated with the coaches to encourage the students to face their barriers and acquire new tools directed towards positive focus and resolve. By the end of the program, the students expressed greater self-confidence, self-awareness, and communication skills, as well as a desire to pursue their goals.

Specific data from the student survey showed that:

• 79% said that they had a healthier understanding of themselves and their family system.

• 79% said they now had better tools to be more positive about life.

• 84% said that the program effectively communicated real-life skills.

• 87.5% said their life coaches were effective in helping them recognize barriers.

• 89% said they would recommend this program to other students.
